Five Mile Creek

I grew up watching a show called "Five Mile Creek". If you haven't heard of it, I HIGHLY recommend checking it out if you can find it. It wasn't very popular, but you can buy the series on places like Ebay.
The story takes place on the Australian frontier. Kate Wallace owns a ranch/inn that eventually become a stop on the region's first stagecoach line. The series follows her, the people who work for her, and the people who pass through on the coach. The series was filmed on location forty miles north of Sydney in the Australian outback
The theme song still gets me all excited! I can remember going with my Mom to the video store on Friday afternoon, and it was rare when we didn't leave with a "Five Mile Creek" tape in our possession for our traditional Friday night (the whole family together for pizza and a movie. A tradition we still hold). I can still remember the layout of the video store, although its long been out of business.
Each tape had two episodes, and I can remember always having to "convince" Mom and Dad to let us stay up long enough to watch both. As soon as the closing credits would come on for the first episode, we would say "IT'S NOT OVER". And then we'd all get some ice cream to watch during the second episode.

One of the main characters is Con Madigan. What a stud! He was my first crush, and boy-oh-boy was I smitten! He was such a suave cowboy, with the perfect hat.

A little known fact is that the role of Annie on "Five Mile Creek" was one of Nicole Kidman's first jobs.

I wish shows like this still existed.

  1. OH MY!!!! Such fond memories. I sure wish I had those days back. I would go back to 1979-1996 in a heartbeat. There was nothing better than six Marx's in the living room on a Friday night. Or for that matter, on a Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. I LOVED THAT TIME. Although, I must say, I do look forward to my children all starting their own memories with their families. But, I do miss those times, big time!!
