Well, here I am in our nation's beautiful capitol- Washington DC! So far, it's been a whirlwind! I was up before the sun yesterday......that's right, I WAS UP AT 5:45! I could hardly believe it myself, but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do. I did some last minute packing, took some quick pictures of the beautifully foggy morning.....

....then zonked out in the truck before we had even left the hosue. We (Dad, Mom and I) had a seven hour drive ahead of us, and I knew I better catch some sleep before the inevitable information overload when we got to the Washington Center.
We arrived in the DC area around 3:15, but were a little later getting to the apartment building because of some traffic. I was a bit surprised, because when Eva and I made our trip it was a breeze getting into the city. It was also a bit shocking to see several (8-10) police cars zoom past with their lights flashing, as well as an armored truck! We later found out that a man was holding hostages in the Discovery Channel Headquarters in protest against some of their programming. You may have seen it on the news....If nothing else, it was a good reminder that I need to be alert and smart while I'm here.
We got to the Washington Center Residential and Academic Facility and were met by friendly faces who were willing to help, and I was immediately wisked away to check in, meet my RA and get settled in my room. I have two sweet apartment mates, Anne and Kelly, although I ahve my own room. It's nice to have people aorund me, but also to have my own space, my own bathroom, two closets and two dressers!! I feel like I'm living in luxery!! The building is brand new, having jsut been opened in May, and everything is clean, bright, with the smell of fresh paint in the air. I love the idea of living in an apartment!! We have a fully stocked kitchen and beautiful common room complete with large windows, flat screen tv, and comfy couches. The walls are a bit bare, but that will be remedied when artwork is sent over next week.

We got my room all set up, and with pictures and little nicknacks from home it's wonderful and comfortable.
From there Mom and Dad headed to their hotel and I headed to the first of many meetings that iwll take place over the next few days. It was a typical meeting about the rules and regulations of living in a "dorm" setting, but it was fun to see all of the other interns.
After the meeting, Kelly, Anne and I spent some time talking about different roommate things because we had to turn in a sheet of who will have what responsibilities. Although it was only 10:30 when we were finished, I was completely exhausted! So after a quick phone call to Mom, I headed to bed.
